Thornburg bought 3.02 million shares in MTS in second quarter

American investment fund Thornburg Investment Trust purchased 3.02 million shares in network MTS in the second quarter of 2014 (0.15% of total shares in the company) for $59.7 million. According to Thornburg’s accounts the group owned no shares in MTS prior to 31st March 2014.

Thornburg also increased its investment in Russian retail chain ‘Magnit’ and payments service Qiwi. By the end of the first quarter of 2014 its stake in ‘Magnit’ was $38.3 million, whereas by 30th June it had risen to $78.6 million. Its stake in Qiwi increased threefold over the same period, from $13.35 million to $44.8 million.

Thornburg’s investments don’t end there. Its stake in Megafon also grew by 26%, or $167 million, and its stake in Yandex grew from $79 million to $89 million. In the first quarter the group had severely reduced its shares in Yandex, selling $177 million worth. Its stake in remains largely unchanged, at $108.9.
