World of Tanks has made $475m in the past year

0 25 April 2014

According to analysts at SuperData, Belarusian company Wargaming has made $475 million from World of Tanks in the past year. It had previously announced a lower total of $372 million.

For comparison, in 2013 Mail.Ru Group made $208.9 million from multiplayer online gaming, 40.6% up on the previous year. It is true that user payments brought the company another $216 million, taking into account its income from games on social networks such as “My World” and “Classmates”. However Wargaming has still overtaken MRG, even by its own less generous calculations.

World of Tanks was released in 2010 and quickly became one of the most popular games on the web. Practically all of Wargaming’s revenue comes from the game, which uses the free-to-play model: users download it for free, but pay for various items within the game.

In terms of profit per user, World of Tanks has surpassed all of its competitors, making it number one in the world.

The analysts at SuperData also forecast World of Tanks to bring in $506 million and $590 million in the next two years.
